| Episode narrativeepisode_narrative | A series of weak low pressure systems moving northeast along a slow moving cold front over the western Atlantic Ocean brought the Delmarva Peninsula its first wintry precipitation of the season. Precipitation started as snow around 5 p.m. EST on the 23rd in the northern half of the Eastern Shore and as sleet in the southern half of the Eastern Shore. The precipitation changed over to sleet as far north as Kent County overnight. Precipitation fell mainly as sleet with some freezing rain mixed in farther south. The heaviest precipitation occurred before midnight. Light snow lingered through the early morning of the 24th in Cecil County. A mixture of sleet and freezing drizzle fell into the morning of the 24th farther south before the last low pressure system pulled far enough offshore to end the precipitation. The heaviest accumulations occurred in Cecil County where precipitation fell mainly as snow. Farther south accumulations were 1.5 inches or less. In Cecil County accumulations included 4.3 inches in Cecilton and 3.0 inches in Elkton. This first wintry precipitation of the season caused many accidents, mainly fender benders during the evening of the 23rd. |
