Event narrativeevent_narrativeThe first winter storm of the season affected a very small portion of southern Illinois, mainly around Mt. Vernon. A mixture of rain, snow, and sleet changed to all snow. Accumulations of 4 to 5 inches occurred in much of Jefferson County, including Mount Vernon. Due to warm ground temperatures, most of the accumulation was on grassy areas, except for some slush on side roads. Further south, minor icing occurred in the Marion-Carbondale area, but warm ground temperatures kept roads wet.
