| episode_narrative | Low pressure tracking through extreme southeast Wisconsin brought heavy snow to the east central and northeast parts of the state, making holiday travel difficult and disrupting last minute Christmas shopping excursions. The heaviest snow, with accumulations of 9 to 12 inches, fell in a 30 to 40 mile wide band extending from Redgranite (Waushara county) to Marinette (Marinette county). This area received heavy convective snow bursts on the evening of the 23rd, with snowfall rates exceeding 2 inches per hour at times. Thunder was reported in Green Bay. The greatest snowfall reported was one foot in Hortonville (Outagamie county), followed by 11.5 inches in Appleton (Outagamie county) and 10 inches at the National Weather Service office in Green Bay. Six to eight inch amounts were measured across most other parts of east central and northeast Wisconsin, except near the Lake Michigan shoreline, where warmer temperatures resulted in a mixture of rain and snow. North winds gusting as high as 30 mph caused considerable blowing and drifting of the newly fallen snow, leading to near-blizzard conditions at times. |
