| episode_narrative | An arctic cold front plunged into North Central Texas during the morning hours of the 17th causing surface temperatures to fall rapidly into the 20s. An upper level disturbance approached northern Texas from the west as the arctic air deepened over the area. As the disturbance moved into the southern plains, precipitation developed across the northern portion of North Central Texas and fell to the ground in the form of snow. Accumulations were generally light but some locations north of a Jacksboro to Denton to Sulphur Springs line received as much as one inch of snow during the afternoon and evening hours. Automobiles compacted and melted the snow that accumulated on road surfaces. Because temperatures were well below freezing the moisture refroze on bridges and overpasses in many of the locations that received the heavier snowfall. Icy conditions resulted in numerous traffic accidents and a few indirect injuries. The most notable icing problems were reported in Hopkins, Montague, Hunt, Lamar and Fannin Counties. |
