episode_narrativeA low pressure system developed over South Carolina the afternoon of the 5th. As it quickly intensified and moved northeast (It passed just east of the New Jersey coast the morning of the 6th.), the precipitation associated with it changed from rain to snow across the higher terrain of Sussex County during the early morning of the 6th. As the storm continued to intensify during the morning of the 6th, so did the precipitation. The heaviest snow fell between about 7 a.m. and 11 a.m EST. The snow was very elevation dependent. While the higher terrain locations were receiving heavy snow, considerably less fell in the valleys where precipitation fell as or mixed with rain longer. Accumulations included 11.5 inches at High Point, 7 inches in Sparta, and only one inch in Newton.
