| Episode narrativeepisode_narrative | By the late evening hours on the 24th, an arctic cold front had pushed through much of North Texas. Widespread precipitation occurred over the area ahead of an intense upper level low pressure system as warm, moist air was lifted over the shallow arctic air. As the arctic air deepened, the rain changed to freezing rain and freezing drizzle then to sleet across much of the area. The sleet ultimately changed to a mixture of sleet and snow over the northwest half of the area as the arctic air deepened further. Generally, one half to one inch of sleet and snow fell west of a Texarkana to Centerville line. Northwest of a Bowie to Weatherford to Comanche line, convective sleet and snow showers occurred and heavier amounts, mainly two to four inches of snow and sleet, were observed. Icing on roadways, especially bridges and overpasses, resulted in many traffic accidents and a few indirect deaths. |
