Thunderstorms deposited bursts of heavy snow across the area late 3/23 into the morning of 3/24. Heavy snow redeveloped during the early afternoon of 3/24 across the area along with strong winds. The wind along with falling snow produced blizzard conditions across parts of southwest Minnesota with near blizzard conditions for a time across the south during the morning of 3/25. Snowfall of 6 to 10 inches was common with about 10 inches at the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport. 15 inches was reported at Cedar and St. Francis in Anoka county with 13 inches at Forest Lake in Chisago county. More than 400 schools closed on 3/25. Heavy rain preceded the snow across southeast Minnesota resulting in minor flooding in the St. Charles area along the south fork of the Whitewater River. |
