Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeA wildfire started south of Interstate 80/94 near the north Little Calumet River west of Chase Street. The fire spread north toward the interstate just west of Chase Street and crossed over Interstate 80/94 with traffic impacted by thick smoke. Multiple fire response agencies were involved with fighting the fire, including a Lake County Sheriff's Department helicopter, which carried water in a bucket from a nearby canal. Damage to utility poles occurred along the interstate. North of the interstate, multiple parked vehicles and a shed were burned. South winds were gusting as high as 30 mph with relative humidity levels around 30 percent. The cause of the fire was not known. No injuries or fatalities were reported. The size of the fire was estimated around 50 acres, using high resolution satellite imagery.
