Drying of the vegetation/fuels and extended periods of high fire weather conditions helped support the spread of a wildfire that developed in a populated area just north of the Phoenix metro area. |
| Event narrativeevent_narrative | In the afternoon on the 23rd, a wildfire developed in heavy vegetation of the Skunk creek basin near I-17 and Carefree Hwy and spread northeast within the basin, which runs between the neighborhoods of the area. The fire quickly led to the evacuation of more than 200 homes. Despite the gritty efforts of the firefighter and emergency responders, 1 home was destroyed and 5 secondary structures were also destroyed. Slurry was dumped on multiple homes and property as a part of the fighting effort. Multiple power lines were also reportedly damaged or destroyed, which led to many homes losing power. The fire became fully contained in the morning of the 26th after burning 893 acres. |
