| episode_narrative | The Mallard Wildfire began about nineteen miles south southeast of Caude Texas in Armstrong County around 1810CST. The wildfire began south of Farm to Market Road 2272 and east of Texas State Highway 207. The wildfire consumed seventy-five thousand five hundred and thirty acres. There were about twenty-five homes and fifteen other structures that were threatened by the wildfire but were saved, however one home was destroyed by the wildfire. There were no reports of any injuries or fatalities, however there were reported to be ten near misses. The wildfire began in Palo Duro Canyon and then moved to Mulberry Canyon. The Summer Field wildfire burned into and merged with the Mallard Fire. The cause of the wildfire was determined to be from lightning. There were multiple evacuations ordered and multiple fire departments and other fire agencies responded to the wildfire including the Texas A&M Forest Service. There were reported to be multiple air assets and TIFMAS units which were deployed. There was also a Southern Red Incident Team and Type 1 crews from out of state were deployed. The wildfire was contained around 2200CST on May 18. |
