episode_narrativeLow snowpack in the winter of 2015-2016, combined with a warm and early spring set the stage for dry fuels in the mountains surrounding Anchorage.
event_narrativeThe McHugh Creek Fire initiated along the Seward highway on July 16th. It smoldered for two or three days, but then dry northerly winds caused the fire to grow and threaten the highway. This fire was close to several Anchorage subdivisions and evacuations were considered but not required. No structures were destroyed but the firefighting agencies estimate $6M was spent on firefighting efforts.
