episode_narrativeThe Poomacha Fire started on the 23rd of October as the result of a house fire on the La Jolla Indian Reservation. The fire quickly spread through the reservation and up the southwest facing slopes of Mount Palomar. The Poomacha Fire eventually merged with the Witch Fire near Pine Mountain. An estimated 49,410 acres of brush and timber was burned before firefighters achieved full containment on November 9th. The fire destroyed 138 homes, 78 outbuildings, and 353 vehicles. Fifteen firefighters were injuried fighting the fire. The Poomacha Fire cost $20.6M to fight and was one of thirteen large, wind-driven wildfires to impact the San Diego CWA in late October.
