event_narrativeA wildfire began around 5pm Friday, when brisk north winds, following a dry and very modified arctic front, fanned a slash burn on Hutler Road. Embers from the fire apparently blew into tall, dead grass, burned quickly across a meadow and into the dead spruce trees (due to spruce bark beetle kill during the last few years). The fire burned downhill toward East End Road and Kachemak Bay. One mobile home was destroyed and 20 homes were threatened. Close to 75 acres were burned.
