| episode_narrative | The February Fire was caused by an abandoned campfire along the Mogollon Rim about 12 miles north of Payson. Persistant northeast winds pushed the fire south and down off the Rim. The fire grew to 4,200 acres before it was contained. This area would usually have over a foot of snow on the ground in early February. The very dry winter contributed to the rapid spread of this fire. One snowstorm dumped over 3 feet of snow on the burned area about 3 weeks later. |
