episode_narrativeA brush fire that blackened 25,000 acres of mostly vacant land caused the evacuation of two-thirds of the residents of Waikoloa Village, about 1500 homes, in the South Kohala District on the Big Island of Hawaii from the 2nd until the 3rd of August. The blaze forced the closure of schools and roads for a time in the area as firefighters struggled to control the fire's advance. The smoke from the fire caused problems for some homes, but no residences or other buildings suffered physical damage. There were no serious injuries. How the fire started was unknown.
