episode_narrativeThe Campbell Fire began in late July about 14 miles west of Nucla and is believed to have been caused by lightning. The fire consumed 4,115 acres of ponderosa pine, pinyon pine, juniper and oak brush, primarily on BLM and Forest Service lands. Portions of Third Park Road out of Nucla were closed due to the fire, and 4 to 7 outbuildings were threatened. The estimated cost of fighting the fire was 550,000 dollars.
