event_narrativeThe Three Forks Fire was human caused on Tuesday June 6 at 2:00 PM about 10 miles west of Alpine. The fire spread rapidly under Red Flag conditions (relative humidity less than 15%, sustained wind speeds of 20 MPH or greater, and wind gusts over 35 MPH at the 20 foot level). The fire had grown to over 3,500 acres by the morning of June 7th. The fire was burning in ponderosa pine, spruce, mixed conifer, and grass land/meadows. The fire burned 7,905 acres and three abandoned structures before the fire was contained on June 24th.
