| episode_narrative | Gusty winds, hot temperatures and persistent extreme dryness in forest areas set the stage for several small fires, both in Lincoln County, to become large wildfires. Lightning is suspected to have started the Pippin wildfire in the Capitan Mountains about 15 miles northeast of Lincoln which had consumed nearly 48,000 acres by the end of the month and destroyed about 15 historic cabins dating back to near 1920. The Lookout wildfire flared from an improperly extinguished camp fire in the Gallinas Mountains just west of Corona. This 5500 acre wildfire claimed a ranch headquarters and mountain top communications facilities before it was contained. |
