episode_narrativeNamed the Roblar 2 Fire, this fire was started by live ammunition training on the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base, and burned 8,592 acres before it was contained. The community of De Luz was evacuated as the fire jumped the permanent Roblar Fuel Firebreak. Atmospheric conditions during the first few days of the fire were: maximum temperatures near 100 degrees, minimum relative humidity 15 percent, and erratic winds. In addition to very dry and warm conditions, fire fighting efforts were also hampered by the unexploded ordinance laying on the ground. Over 1300 fire fighters were involved and the cost of fighting the fire was estimated at $2 million.
