episode_narrativeA blaze scorched about 7000 acres of dry brush in the North Shore area of Oahu, near Waialua. The fire raged from Sunday, August 12, through Sunday, August 19. It began at 1:40 P.M. on the 12th near the University of Hawaii Experimental Farm near Kaukonahua Road and spread in all directions over the next week. Residents close to the fire were evacuated for a time as crews worked to contain the blaze, and many homes became covered with soot. However, in the end, there were no serious injuries or significant property damage. The cause of the fire was not determined.
