episode_narrativeOn July 4th, the Zaca Fire started in the mountains of Santa Barbara county. Hot and dry conditions helped fuel the growth of the fire.
event_narrativeOn July 4th, the Zaca Fire was ignited by sparks from the grinding of metal by several ranchers in the mountains of Santa Barbara County. As of the end of July, the fire was not fully contained and had burned over 40,000 acres. During July, the area experienced a couple of periods with very hot temperatures, over 100 degrees, and very low relative humidity. These extreme weather conditions when combined with critical live fuel moistures (less than 60%) allowed for the rapid spread of the fire. Smoke from the fire affected the counties of San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura.
