episode_narrativeExtreme drought conditions and moderate winds resulted in this human-caused fire spreading among dry fuels in the San Pedro River Valley.
event_narrativeThe human-caused Benson 1 Fire started near Interstate 10, just west of Pomerene, AZ along the dry San Pedro River bed and spread through timber and brush near the river bottom. Since it was difficult to access, moderate winds caused this fire to spread up the banks where it destroyed a small trailer at an RV park. As a precautionary measure, a two mile stretch of Interstate 10 was closed briefly on the day the fire started, and about 25 mobile homes were evacuated.
