Wind gusts from 55 to 70 mph occurred over portions of far eastern Colorado and northwest Kansas during the day. |A peak wind of 68 mph occurred at Kirk, Colorado in Yuma County, with a gust of 58 mph reported at a mesonet station west of Goodland, Kansas.
event_narrativeA wildfire raced north across Yuma County in 50 to 70 mph winds, destroying two farmsteads and injuring three firefighters. An estimated 2400 acres of grassland and range land was burned. The fire is thought to have started around 1:15 pm MDT resulting from arcing utility wires. The fire was 90% contained by 7:00 am MDT the following morning.
