episode_narrativeNumerous lightning strikes during the late evening hours on July 31st resulted in several wildfire starts. These wildfires were Jupiter, Big John, Beaver, Chalky, Sun Dance, and the Dawes fires. By the next day, August 1st, these fires were consolidated into one wildfire and re-named the Rosebud Complex. These fires were located 4 to 30 miles south of Rosebud, Montana. The fuels burned were Ponderosa pine, sage brush, and grass. The acreage burned was 171,444 acres which measured about 205 square miles. Three homes and two outbuildings were destroyed by the fire. The cost to fight the wildfire was $7.9 million. In addition, the wildfire destroyed a state highway communications tower and knocked out transmissions between dispatchers and troopers. The Rosebud Complex was fully contained by August 15th.||More detailed information can be found at www.inciweb.org.
