episode_narrativeA fire blackened 4900 acres of dry brush, and macadamia and coffee farm lands, near Pahala in the Kau District on the Big Island of Hawaii. The fire forced the evacuation of Kau Hospital. The 15 long-term care patients at the facility were moved for a time to the Naalehu Community Center. Highway 11 in the area was also closed for six hours as firefighters battled the inferno. The cause of the fire was unknown. There were no serious injuries reported. No damage estimates were available. The fire was about 60% contained by the end of June.
