The most critical fire weather conditions occurred on April 10 with strong gusty west winds and relative humidity values of 5 to 15 percent. |
| event_narrative | The Wildcat Fire burned approximately 159,308 acres and was 100 percent contained by the end of April. This fire was located just north of San Angelo and extended north into Coke County. More than 400 homes were saved. The communities of Grape Creek, Quail Valley, Bronte, Robert Lee and Tennyson were threatened. This wildfire caused some evacuations north of San Angelo and also near Robert Lee. The fire destroyed the San Angelo NOAA Weather Radio Transmitter equipment which was housed in a building.||On Tuesday, April 20, a giant DC-10 air tanker shored up the aerial battle that had begun a couple of days before, dropping thousands of gallons of fire retardant at a pass on the east side of U.S. 277, trying to stop the eastward march of the Wildcat. |
