episode_narrativeA fire burned about 6200 acres of brush near Maalaea in Maui from 7-14 June. The fire was reported around 10 PM on the 7th and was declared extinguished at 12:30 PM on the 14th. More than 100 people had to be evacuated from their homes in the late evening of the 7th as the fire moved close to the shoreline. On the 8th, officials closed Honoapiilani Highway for six hours because of the blaze, which stranded thousands of motorists. Many of these people were tourists, who ended up missing their flights out of Maui.||One firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation during the event. No significant property damage was reported. County officials were not able to determine the cause of the fire.
