| Episode narrativeepisode_narrative | A mulch fire initiated late morning on October 23rd at a compost facility just south of Interstate 470 in far south Kansas City, MO (just west of the Lee's Summit city limit). Smoke from the fire shut down I-470 for a couple hours and an apartment complex was asked to evacuate. The fire was mostly contained by that evening but continued to smolder for days, even briefly re-igniting on October 26th. |
| Event narrativeevent_narrative | A fire initiated within a compost pile at Missouri Organic Recycling at 10301 Raytown Road in south Kansas City around 11 AM . This pile was nearly 3 stories tall and consisted of tree limbs, grass clippings, and other yard waste. Weather conditions around ignition time were a temperature of 75, relative humidity of 55 percent, and winds out of the south as 19 knots gusting to 34 knots. Smoke from the fire shut down Interstate 470 for a couple hours. The fire was also able to jump I-470 due to the strong southerly winds and burned an abandoned house, barn, and multiple garages north of I-470. Residents of View High Lake Apartments were evacuated as a precaution, but the fire was contained before threatening any dwellings. The fire continued to smolder for several days, and even briefly re-ignited on October 26th. Ten fire departments and 4 law enforcement agencies responded to the fire. |
