Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeAn upper level ridge built over Southwest Alaska June 8th and remained over the area through the 10th. At the surface, a relatively tight pressure gradient to some gusty winds in combination with the hot and dry conditions. A few upper level shortwaves moving through the flow aloft helped to aid in lift across the area. Also, daytime heating helped to destabilize the atmosphere leading to increased instability along with some moisture leading to thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening hours.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeRed Flag Warning conditions were technically not met at any location in 152. However. in coordination with AICC- Alaska Interagency Coordination Center, a decision was made to put out the Red Flag Warning given lack of moisture and susceptibility of available fuels. AICC stated that putting the RFW out would help fire weather managers plan activities more effectively given the conditions. PASL-Sleetmute and PANI-Aniak: max temps 70F; min RH 21 to 30%; winds N 5 to 10 mph (N 8 to 12 w/ gusts to 18 mph in PANI). Conditions lasted from approx 10/2330Z-11/0400Z-10/3:30pm to 10/8pm AKDT.
