Event narrativeevent_narrativeThe human started Black Fire started 24 miles north of Mimbres in Grant County and would spread through the month across the Blacks Range and into western Sierra County. By the end of May, the fire was over 200,000 acres. The fire spread quickly due to extremely dry conditions through the spring and several breezy to windy days during the later half of the month.
