At the end of April, the wildfire had grown to 17,885 acres, and as a very windy pattern persisted during May, this acreage grew quickly. Within the first ten days of the month of May, the Cerro Pelado Fire grew to 42,491 acres. This wildfire prompted the closures of the nearby Bandelier National Monument and the Valles Caldera National Preserve. By the end of the month of May, the wildfire grew to 45,605 acres with 95 percent containment. Currently, no known structures were burned during May. |
