Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeAn extended dry period and above normal temperatures in February created elevated wildfire conditions heading into March. In addition, a widespread killing freeze in February cured early spring growth vegetation, which added to available fuel loading in early March. Breezy SSE winds and elevated transport winds created high daytime dispersion with minimum humidity near 35%.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeA wildfire near the intersection of State Road 100 and NW 129th Avenue was around 50 acres in size with no containment when first reported to the FL State Watch office around 4:37 pm. There was light smoke over State Road 100 and no road closure and no evacuations. At 7:17 pm EST, the Florida Forest Service reported that the fire grew to 100 acres with 0% containment.
