episode_narrativeA severe thunderstorm knocked down large tree limbs and wires throughout Delaware County. PECO Energy reported about 40,000 homes and businesses lost power in Chester and Delaware Counties. About a quarter of the outages were attributed to the wind. There were about 1,600 cloud-to-ground lightning strikes as the thunderstorms moved through Southeast Pennsylvania. The storms overnight produced about 5,000 cloud-to-ground strikes. One lightning strike unfortunately started a fire in the garage of a Marple Township house. It spread quickly and went to three alarms. The house was reduced to rubble and ash. One firefighter suffered dehydration, no other injuries were reported.
