Event narrativeevent_narrativeFrequent lightning from a line of strong to severe thunderstorms caused a fire that destroyed a newly-refurbished World War II barracks on the Florida Atlantic University campus. The barracks, built almost entirely of Dade County pine, crumbled under the fire within minutes. The 21,000 square foot structure had been dedicated 10 days before the fire and was a candidate for the National Register of Historic Places. Reports received from Palm Beach Post and CBS News 12.
