This cluster of storms produced very large hail as it tracked east-southeast across central Cape Girardeau County and then into southern Illinois. The storms developed during the heat of the afternoon along a weakening surface trough that extended southward from the Great Lakes region. The storms were aided by a mid-level shortwave trough moving east-southeast toward the Lower Ohio Valley. |
