These storms developed in a moderately unstable airmass and with a layer of drier air in the low levels of the atmosphere, once these thunderstorms decayed, they produced pockets of wind damage.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeLightning set a battery of tanks ablaze at a gas storage facility on Hwy. 9 south of Arcadia, Louisiana. A secondary explosion occurred after 8 pm, sending flames as high as 300 feet into the air and forced the closure of Hwy. 9. In all, about a dozen tanks were set ablaze.
