A piece of energy traveled over the area during peak heating and this instability and forcing combined with adequate mean layer moisture and forcing from the sea breezes spawned scattered afternoon and evening severe storms.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeLightning struck the St. Augustine Regional Airport runway which caused damage to a 5 foot by 6 foot area of the runway. That section of the runway was closed due to needed repairs. The cost of damage was estimated.
