This was the result of a strong short wave in westerly flow aloft and a very unstable and moist atmosphere present over the area. Damaging downburst winds, large hail, and most significantly a number of lightning incidents were reported.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeWSB Television of Atlanta reported that a 27-year old male construction worker was killed when struck by lightning. The individual was working on a house under construction. He and other workers sought shelter in the structure during the thunderstorm.
