| Episode narrativeepisode_narrative | Scattered severe thunderstorms developed during the early afternoon hours as an upper level disturbance interacted with a very unstable atmosphere. The storms initially produced several reports of large hail during the afternoon across northeast Alabama. Later in the afternoon and early evening, the storms became damaging wind producers with sporadic hail. One well defined bow echo produced widespread wind damage in northwest Alabama. A 59 mph wind gust was measured at the northwest Alabama regional airport in Muscle Shoals (MSL). The large gust front spanning from southern Tennessee through northwest Alabama swept across most of northern Alabama, spawning new strong storms further east. The gust front produced 40 to 50 mph winds, also causing sporadic damage in north central and northeast Alabama. One person was struck by lightning in Limestone County, but the extent of their injury was unknown. |
