Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeA strong upper level disturbance and associated frontal boundary interacted with a moist and unstable air mass to produce a couple rounds of widespread strong to severe thunderstorms across central, south-central and southeast Kansas during the afternoon and evening hours on the 24th. A handful of tornadoes occurred across central Kansas, some of which produced damage and an injury. Straight-line thunderstorm winds of 60 to 80 mph also affected many locations, producing areas of damage. Large hail was not as prevalent, although some stones did reach one inch in diameter.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeA small fire at a Great Bend apartment complex was reportedly started by lightning. Property damage amounts are rough estimates.
