Arctic air enveloped much of the central and southern Plains. A strong cold front, associated with the northeast U.S. upper low, was sweeping through the southeast U.S. A large area of showers and thunderstorms accompanied the front. While none of the thunderstorms became severe, frequent lightning was observed in the stronger storms.
