The remnants of Tropical Depression Number Five (TD5) remained across the region as well. Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms developed near the front during the afternoon and evening hours in the warm, moist, unstable air mass residing across the state. While no severe thunderstorms were observed on this day, cloud-to-ground lightning was frequent and intense. A lightning strike from a thunderstorm in Emanuel county destroyed an old schoolhouse and another lightning strike injured a U.S. Postal carrier near Macon. |
