Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeThe weak, closed off upper low that had been lingering across the mid-south during late May was becoming completely absorbed into the westerlies across the mid-Atlantic region. A moist, unstable air mass remained across the region. Heavy showers and thunderstorms continued from the afternoon of May 31st into June 1st. Additional showers and thunderstorms developed during the afternoon across north and central Georgia. Rainfall of four to six inches fell across parts of Barrow and Jackson counties in less than 24 hours, with one to two inches of rain common across many northeast Georgia counties. Flash flooding in Barrow and Jackson counties continued into the early morning hours of June 1st.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeThe Gwinnett Daily Post of Lawrenceville reported that lightning struck the attic of a home on Goldfield Trace in the Forest Plantation subdivision. The attic suffered significant damage from the resulting fire.
