The center of the ridge across Alabama and the Florida Panhandle provided Georgia with an unstable northwest flow aloft. A weak backdoor front was evident across northeast Georgia with surface high pressure nosing southwest into Georgia. Isolated storms developed on the east and southeast side of Atlanta during the mid-afternoon and propagated southwest onto the south side of Atlanta during the late afternoon before dissipating. Nickel to quarter-sized hail, downburst winds, and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning were noted with these storms.
