Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeAfternoon and evening thunderstorms along the southwest Florida gulf coast caused damage to a home in Marco Island as a result of a lightning strike.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeLightning struck a 5 foot concrete wall in front of a Marco Island residence, blowing out 60 to 70 pound chunks of the wall. Some of the concrete traveled about 40 feet into the neighbors yard and also into the front of the house. Holes were gouged in the front door. Two gas lamps along the driveway also exploded leaving a hole about a foot in diameter. The bolt also caused damage to the homes electronics. Total estimated cost of the damage to the concrete wall, lamps, front door, garage, and electronics was around $75,000.
