Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeWith a mid-level trough over the Florida Peninsula, and a stationary front positioned over Central Florida, plentiful moisture and instability was in place over South Florida. This resulted in numerous showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening of September 18th across South Florida.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeBroadcast media reported that lightning struck a transformer in the 6800 block of Tyler Street in Hollywood, which knocked down a power line onto a home and started a fire. The fire caused significant damage to the home and property. The residents of the home were able to get out safely. Time is approximate and is based on the timing of a severe thunderstorm that was affecting the area at the time, as well as from National Lightning Detection Network data showing several cloud-to-ground strikes in close proximity.
