Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeA stationary front was situated across north Georgia. High pressure aloft had drifted off the east coast and a weak low pressure area was evident aloft over Georgia. Scattered to numerous thunderstorms developed with daytime heating during the afternoon and evening. Several of these became severe and produced damaging downburst winds, hail, and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeThe Polk County 911 Center reported that several structural fires were set in the county by lightning. Radar shows that the strongest reflectivity affected the western half of the county. Exact damage amounts were not able to be determined.
