A cold front moved southeast into the northern Mid-Atlantic, Ohio Valley, and the mid-south toward the morning of the 21st. Ahead of these surface boundaries, scattered showers and storms developed over southern North Carolina in the evening, from the southern Piedmont, eastward across the Sandhills and southern Coastal Plain. Some of the storms over Stanly and Moore Counties produced tree and power line damage.
