| Episode narrativeepisode_narrative | Within an extremely moist environment (precipitable water values in the vicinity of 2 inches) owing to the passing remnants of Tropical Storm Barry, the combination of daytime heating and a developing lake breeze boundary forced an initial line of showers and thunderstorms to form immediately to the lee of Lake Erie around mid afternoon. While this line contained torrential downpours, it moved quickly enough to prevent significant flooding concerns as it pushed east across Chautauqua and most of Cattaraugus counties. However, as this line reached far eastern Cattaraugus and western Allegany counties, it then merged with another line of heavy showers and storms moving north-northeastward from Pennsylvania, resulting in a west-to-east oriented line of heavy rain that became very stationary close to where a narrow swath of one half to one inch of rain fell the day before. Considering the antecedent conditions, the hilly terrain, one-hourly radar estimates of as much as 1-1.3 inches of rain, it was no surprise that flash flooding ensued in this small area. |
| Event narrativeevent_narrative | A co-op observer reported that 2.24 inches of rain fell in Oswego. |
