Storms initiated both ahead of the cold front and lingered behind the surface front with elevated instability present. Both ahead of and behind the surface front MUCAPE values resided around 1000 J/kg. While the surface front remained progressive through the night, storms lingered over the same areas of southern and southeast Iowa throughout the evening and overnight. Storms, predominantly scattered in nature during the time period, did result in heavy rainfall approaching nearly 5 inches around Oskaloosa.
